Whether you are on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn or other networks, social media sites can be useful during your studies, and we’ve got some advice on how you can make the most of them. Our guides include:
Using Twitter for academic purposes
Using Facebook for academic purposes
Using LinkedIn for your academic studies and employability
Throughout December we want to know what our students and staff think about library learning spaces. For on campus students this may mean the quiet study areas, group study pods or IT spaces.
For our off campus or distance learning students we want to know your experience of using online library spaces; perhaps you’ve learned something about the library from our Twitter or Tumblr blogs, perhaps seeing other students comments on Facebook has helped you, or maybe you’ve logged into our Online room to get instant help and support from the Distance Services Librarian.
Are there any online spaces that you’d like the library to provide? If so then let us know.
If you share how you use online library spaces you could be in with a chance of winning an iPad Mini as well as other prizes including an amazon voucher.
Share your experience using library learning spaces:
On Facebook: leave a comment on our wall
Online Drop-in Room: Leave your comment on a sticky note - don’t forget to leave your student email address.
On My Sunderland: You can either comment on our My Sunderland Page or use our discussion Forum.
Make sure you include the hashtag #sparklespace so that we know you’re entering our competition.

These are just a few of the ways distance learning students at the University of Sunderland can use the Library’s Facebook page.
We think Facebook is great for conversations & sharing ideas and experiences
For example, in May this year we asked our students to share one thing they learned about the library so that everyone could learn from each other. There were some great comments which we hope will have helped our new students who started in September, including…
We hope you find our Facebook page a welcoming and informative online space where you can communicate with the library and other students.
If you’re just starting at the University of Sunderland this summer then here’s a few things you will need to know to make the most of the library:
1. As a student you have full access to the electronic journal articles and ebooks within our subscriptions.
2. There are guides and tutorials which demonstrate searching for and accessing e-resources - we call this skills for learning.

3. We’ll be announcing some changes to how you access e-resources soon and replacing our Journal Search tool so watch this space - make sure you sign up for an online library session where I will explain some of these changes and demonstrate new library services.
4. Don’t forget - University Library staff are here to help you
You can contact us anytime in a number of different ways including the more traditional methods of telephone and email as well as on social media sites such as Facebook & Twitter.
